This Week in Fashion: A Stunning Tyra Banks Rockin’ Red

March 30, 2010

I just love Tyra Banks, despite the bad publicity they tried to throw at her when she gained a lot of weight after she retired from being Victoria’s Secret’s Angel.  Little did they know that was just ammunition for her to prove everybody wrong that it didn’t deter her in no shape way or form, in fact, it only heightened her self-esteem, not that it needs to be heightened, she is a truly strong woman.  And who can forget the red bathing suit episode she did, I love how she let every body know she is a real woman and re-transformed herself.   Remember?  It was all over the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2007.  Then there was a lot of discussion of her being way too full of herself.  What?  Because she was the first black model to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated?  Frankly, I think that speaks volumes because when you think about where black women have come today, you have to really stop and ask yourself, “how far have black women come?”

She continues to reach milestones in her career and as she moved from The Tyra Show to pursue other ventures in her life, America’s Next Top Model was her baby that just continues to keep opening doors for young girls and women who want to pursue the same career she pursued.  And what’s wrong with that?  What I like about Tyra is that she doesn’t glamourize the industry making it out to be something that it’s not.  She presents it in reality mode which makes her show the show to follow and for girls to dive in head first to determine if the industry is actually for them in terms of what they are up against from day one.

The Tyra Show is no longer on the air, America’s Next Top Model remains to be making someone’s dream come true, yet she still manages to grace the scene as beautiful as ever.  The Orange Carpet of the Kid’s Choice Awards 2010 managed to get the America’s Top Model star to stop and pose in the fiery red frock and well-coordinated clutch purse and high heel pumps, sporting a sassy hair style that oozes a stunning appearance.  She was sure to turn heads all dolled up as the dress just hugged her curves in all the right places.  I actually love her hair this way, it outlines the shape of her face and brings out her eyes and beautiful smile.  Picture from

Not many can achieve what she and other black models and actresses before and after her have done, and that’s pave the way for other black women to shine.  I say, keep up the good work, Tyra.
