The Southern Bell Dress

December 21, 2011

My latest find is this short and sassy cute little dress Southern Bell Dress I picked up last evening from Zizibeh, a fashion store out here in Los Angeles my daughter and I just found out about.

This is one that I  can sport with sexy stiletto high heel pump, black or champagne, a nice clutch purse and a nice pendant necklace.  No need to over accessorize with this dress.  If I don’t want to wear the sash, I have the flexibility to wear it with a nice wide belt that would add pizzazz to the dress with ease.

I especially like the detail of the dress.  See how it flows and how it hangs?  Almost like chiffon material.  Although I’ve never been a huge fan of polka dots in fashion, I am starting to see more designs that are fashionable, suitable to my taste, and very much wearable to a variety of occasions and not just to work.

The sleeves are flowy with a faux leather button closure.  The dress is short at about 34.5″ in length.  It is lined and provides a nice stretch.  Has an elasticized waist that provides about 6 inches of stretch.  The only difference is, the dress I have has elastic at the wrist and doesn’t have the button closure.  But it’s pretty much the same dress.

The pleats add style, which is one of the things that drew me to it.  Polka dots on small pleats with a semi ruffled bottom…flirty and sassy all day long.

And there is the double faux leather V-neck in both front and back of the dress.

Originally I went looking for a size large in this dress because I am very apprehensive about buying dresses made out of this kind of fabric in a medium because everybody knows that not all size mediums fit like mediums, rather they fit like a size small.  Unfortunately, they didn’t have this dress in a large (they did have a large in the dark fuschia, but I didn’t like that one as much as I did the champagne colored one), making me feel reluctant to buy the dress in a size medium.

I didn’t have time to try it on given the time schedule I was on last night.  I got home, tried on the dress, and was surprise that it actually fit like a medium is supposed to fit.  Probably because I’m losing weight, too.

Overall, I love the dress.  The style and quality is really nice and makes for a nice dress to wear on an evening out.   If you like this dress you can head on down to Zizibeh at 3451 West Century Boulevard, #B7, Inglewood, CA 90303-1228.  You can call them at 310 412-7880.  West of Crenshaw Boulevard, next door to Target.  They also have a store in Long Beach.  This is a popular item with only a few left in the store.  You can also check out ModCloth.com.  But hurry, last I checked they only had one left at $57.99 (Zizibeh has it for $28.95).
