Style File: Rocking New Looks

August 15, 2012

Haven’t been blogging in a little while.  That’s because I’ve been testing out some new looks in the past couple of weeks in the attempt to boost my style, brighten my wardrobe, and set a new trend for the women over 40.

It’s been hectic with getting my daughter ready to return to school on 8/14, so a lot of my time has been spent focusing on her more rather than myself.  For me it’s been stealling a little time here and there for myself, but never too much that it took away from her.  Well, now I’m proud to say that I’ve gotten her all set and squared away and she’s ready to rock and roll for school!  Hair’s done, school supplies in order, school clothes lined up and ready, shoes on deck, and school bag ready at attention.  So, I’ve been able to pull together some looks for me that some who know me very well will say are very much different for me.

Mini skirts, the blazer and mini skirt look with a ruffled sleeveless top, prints and patterns, and even incorporating styles into my wardrobe that I’ve never worn before.  I’ve taken a liken to the updated style on the clog heel that I remember was the favorite among modern women way back in the day.  I talk about those shoes in my must haves post.

Having gone back to what I love most are ruffles and with the layered look, especially.  Prints and patterns are spicing up my wardrobe this season.  This BCX  sleeveless ruffled animal-print caught my attention at Macy’s when my daughter and I were hanging out with a friend of mine a couple of weekends ago at the Crenshaw Baldwin Mall.  I later went over to th Macy’s Plaza over on 7th Street and Flower to Macy’s and managed to pick up the multi-color print top, and just ordered this animal print, one, too.  The multi-color print top has an array of colors of pinks, purples and grays, trmmed in black.  It ties in the back and is lined and sort of has a nice flair at the bottom.  Bodes very well with the banded skirt.

I ordinarily do not by clothes from Macy’s but lately they’ve been having some killer sales.  And both tops were $24.98 and the skirt — if I recall correctly — was on sale.  Keeping in with the age appropriateness, I’m sure to turn heads and move mountains with a vamped up look that’s not going too over the top.

I love to wear suits, so I found this cute cowl neck racer back top, on sale for $19.99.  I like the ruching style and the champagne color is just fabulous.

The tops shown above( the multi-colored top mentioned is not shown) are from Macy’s.

The surplice tops have been catching my attention as they are different and unique and can create a daytime and night time look…definitely made me take a second look at the odd style that I’ve had to really take a step back and think twice about wanting to tackle the style head on.

The one I ended up getting came from Rainbow (pictures to come).  It’s black and off-white stripes, sheer, and I wore it to work with a pair of black slacks and my black blazer with the ruched sleeves, and my black ankle pumps.  I received lots of compliments on that ensemble.

Of course it’s been blazing hot out here in Los Angeles, so what in the heck am I doing wearing all this black.  I decided to get with the program and lighten up the color and thin out the material and go with a really cute high-low dress, white leggings and flat strippy sandals (photos to come).  Talk about being comfortable and cool during the warm weather.

Next up…as I am nearing my birthday this coming weekend, I decided I would celebrate the graciousness of turning another year older with this number from New York & Company.  This makes three outfits this year that I’ve purchased from the store that seems to be continuously stepping up their game.

This is a popular dress because it’s sold out twice.  Fortunately I managed to get a hold of one and can’t wait to wear it while we’re still in the summer months.

I love the color blocking and the colors overall that makes this an attractive dress; the style and the look that says sexy, but subtle and is perfect for the office.  Colors of this magnitude is what’s been missing from my wardrobe.  Why not throw some color in the mix to stir things up.  They are fun, bright and vibrant.

This is how I am keeping it moving with new trends, and being the woman over 40 who is not afraid to be bold and daring with new looks.
